Based from parts unknown, Abstract Void is an ambitious and thoroughly creative force in the bandcamp synth game, blending the likes of retrowave and blackgaze in a dreamy yet incredibly intense haze of musical bliss. Hip extreme metal enthusiasts will immediately recognize a strong affinity with the likes of San Francisco’s Deafheaven or Azerbaijan’s Violet Cold in Abstract Void’s blinding wall of sound, though to limit the project to this mere comparison would serve a great disservice to the artist’s latest record. Wishdream combines synthpop appeal with a heavy dose of atmosphere to create the sonic blend of a lifetime. Gimmicky as the formula may sound, Abstract Void will silence any curious sceptics through the sheer grandeur of the album’s arrangements and production.

Could AV’s Synth-blackgaze be on the verge of a new trend that further binds the ties between metal and retrowave? One thing is for sure; the mere idea would sound utterly ridiculous had we not heard what this producer is capable of.
