The fresh darkwave act Indradevi are set to release their sophomore album “Idols” on June 12th. Ahead of it’s release is a devilish new music video!
The creators of Indradevi, Barong and Rangda, mix together Cambodian, retro, industrial and D&B influences to create an intense, ominous and baleful soundscape. The vocalist Sophea Pel stunningly alternates between English and Khmer, the language of cambodia. This is certainly an interesting release to say the least – don’t miss out!
According to director Gregory Cahill, “The inspiration for the “Idols” music video started with the overall tone of the album. There is a dark retro atmosphere that called to mind a lot of 80’s martial arts films – the stuff that I grew up watching. My video definitely gives a sizable nod to the mighty John Carpenter. I was heavily influenced by Big Trouble in Little China, plus things like Mortal Kombat, Ghostbusters, and Michael Jackson music videos. The key thing for me was to tell a story that hints at a much larger story. I’m not sure people will quite grasp what’s going on, but that’s part of the fun. You’re catching just a quick glimpse of a very strange world. Hopefully, you want to see more of that world.”
