From the desolate, infinite stillness of our ever-expanding musical cyberspace, Shenzen-based producer Ryan Hill, aka KAGAMI Smile, has hijacked the early April airwaves. The nature of the transmission? An aethereal excursion into forms set free from the confines of the physical realm, a sonic mass with a fragrance of Warp records IDM sophistication and shoegazing textures. Its name ? Secrets Between, a mere drop in Bandcamp’s endless stream of noise and sonic bliss and a future vague memory for the impatient sound scavenger, but a vivid moment of bliss for the open minds in search of traces of the otherworldly.

Introducing JUNKS – a fantastic and delicious new synth group making their way into the scene all the way from the mog strewn, neon-lit streets of the eastern Chinese metropolis Hangzhou!

They describe their sound as “…the soundtrack to their electric dreams and acid-rain soaked days, and their
robo-pop melodies provide much needed relief from the inescapable cloud of noxious gas that swirls constantly overhead.”

I’m happy to say that JUNKS sounds just as beautiful as their descriptive writing. Their music builds on synthpop with a variety of influences outside the traditional NewRetroWave sound, leading to a different and inspired take on synthpop. JUNKS latest single “Everybody’s Movin’ ” is a stroke of brilliance with surprisingly crisp production, spot-on vocals, and a few awesome references to Stranger Things and other 80’s revival culture.
