The desert dwelling Caspro has released yet another exceptional album, “Making Waves.” This release is a truly great piece of chilled out synth that will have you grooving through the night until the sunrise! “Making Waves” just recently hit its crowdfunding goal for an independent record press, so we ‘re thinking now is the perfect time to release our review of this beautiful chillsynth album.

Caspro has been releasing music since at least 2017, with his first full length Bandcamp release titled “Head Reset.” This album was pretty fantastic for a fresh first release – but was very different than the relaxed retro chillsynth that comprises “Making Waves.” Often featuring fast paced arpeggiations, upbeat tempos, swelling synthetic melodies, a bit of chiptune and some minor chords – “Head Reset” felt more like a cyberpunk synthwave release than anything close to chill.

In subsequent releases such as “Kardasynth,” Memory Drive,” and “Galactic Punks,” we heard more of the particular blend of cyberpunk and synthwave – though at times with elements more influenced by nostalgic retrowave overtones. We also heard a few releases that featured the darker side of synth as well, with “Dark Digital” being a full-on monstrous darksynth and cyberpunk EP.

Chilling Out The Synth

However, it seems that something has changed with Caspro’s latest release, “Making Waves” – and it the result is some truly amazing synthwork! The quick arpeggios have transformed with an adventuring, dreamy and cinematic quality, reminiscent of Centric81 (Formerly known as Syntax.) Often times the arpeggiation is removed altogether, focusing instead on a charming set of relaxed major key synth leads that swell into really beautiful melodies.

Much of the tempo on “Making Waves” is slowed as well from Caspro’s previous work, cementing the chillsynth vibes even further. The production quality from Caspro has always been good, but here it feels like it’s taken a step forward as well. “Making Waves” feels like a journey through the night and across the ocean, leading us to somewhere new and inspiring.

So what changed? Who knows. Perhaps Caspro is just further exploring the territory with his “Making Waves”, or perhaps this is a new overall direction. Certain tracks of his released previously definitely had chillsynth elements – but tended to be more retro influenced too. He’s also stated on social media that his next release is coming, and will be “emotional and melancholic” – so chances are high we’ll see this trend of relaxed synth continue.

Whatever the case, we’re definitely excited to hear more! It always important for artists to step outside of their comfort zone and create new sounds – it’s how music evolves. One thing is certain – as synthwave continues to age, the better artists will continue pushing forward into the future with new sounds.
