Warning: This OVA might depict situations and themes that may not be suitable for anyone under the age of 16 or born under a rock and satin sheets.

How’s everyone doing out there? Are you doing well or just getting by during yet another disastrous presidential term. Seems like the whole western world is dragging everyone else down in a flaming shopping cart full of fireworks down a thumbtack water slide of energy drink into oblivion and the third-world. It’s not even 2077 and life is just cyberpunk (af) or at least a Temu version of it. What does this have to do with this months movie- absoultely nothing. Nothing except the mood of dispair in the air.

Spoiler Alert: This is Violence Jack and the sequel to Devilman; both created by Go Nagai.

This the final OVA in the series. The other entries are unedited and thus I can’t share with you here. However, fortunately or not, this version is the VHS edited version.

The Plot:
Sleepy town in the wastelands of Japan where a village is determined to pick up and rebuild their way of lives in the afterbirth of the apocalypse. A young hopeful teacher is kidnapped by the Hell’s Wind biker gang. Strapped to a ticking time bomb her only hope is the mysterious and freakishly gigantic antihero known as Violence Jack and his superhuman strength and size.

More backstory:

The series takes place in the ruins of the Kantō region, after a massive earthquake (which in the OVAs was triggered by a Comet strike) dubbed ‘The Great Kanto Hellquake’. Cut off from the rest of the world, the survivors of the disaster are divided between the strong and the weak, and the land becomes a haven for criminals and renegades from around the world. Violence Jack is uncovered among the rubble and demolished granite by the inhabitants of a ruined city, asking him to help the weak people and helping them destroy what, in most cases, are the strong groups commanded by killers and rapists (this is the story line of “Violence Jack: Evil Town”). In the three OVAs, Jack is requested to help different groups, such as the Zone A (later he ends up helping Zone C women) or a small town, as shown in “Hell’s Wind”. As for the manga, the stories change drastically, the first being the story of Violence Jack helping a group of female models in a tropical forest in Kanto by possessing a boy living in said forest in order to fight off a roving tribe of bandits. Although Jack maintains a ruthless facade, he often helps the weak, and expects nothing in return. However, Jack’s unpredictable nature means that bystanders get injured or even killed on occasion as a consequence of his vicious fighting style.

It’s not the longest but it’ll do the trick. I know she said that but, I meant this movie. If you are interested in the further adventures of Violence Jack I recommend finding (if you can stomach it) the other unedited OVA’s in the trilogy as well the mangas. Or you can go and revisit the Devilman animes including the Devilman Crybaby anime that is still on NETFLIX.

sO in ThE meantIme, stay vigilante, stay angry, learn h0w the shoot, con, build networks, put money away, don’t be a dumb maga or dumb blue maga, be yourselves, persevere and keep your damn finger on that ReWind Button.

(warning: This anime is not intended for children. Due to sex, violence, rape, murder, foul language)

Mad Bull 34 was adapted into a four-part original video animation released from December 21, 1990 to August 21, 1992. A sequel manga, Mad Bull 2000 (マッド・ブル 2000) began in 1999.

Daizaburo “Eddie” Ban, a Japanese-American police officer assigned to the 34th Precinct located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of NYC. Daizaburo is young, ambitious and soon to be partnered with John “Sleepy” Estes otherwise known as MADBULL.

The pairing seems like a mismatch from the get-go.
Mabbull is a take-no-nonsense, hair-triggered, maniac with a badge. He runs a prostitution ring and has no hesitation to murder suspects and criminals. That being said he isn’t a complete sociopath. He takes the earning from the Prostitution ring to donate to charity and he does after-all look out for the little guy. He’s the typical cliché late 80’s antihero with a shotgun and a grenade jockstrap. Madbull as a character and anime is a critique of western culture and entertainment; violent, misogynistic, amoral and full of raunchy language. This is what anime once was. No BS. No restrictions. No rules. Anything goes. Amen.

Not as violent as Genocyber or ANGEL COP but, the realistic setting and over the top action is the icing on this cake. The english voice acting is just as over the top as the action. The accents are thick and at times cartoonish, even for a cartoon. The villains are run of the mill Streets of Rage bad guys and the buddy cop dynamic helps to sell the story. There’s nudity and sex and drugs and bullets. It might as well be a 42nd street anime. The four movies are a hoot. Not for the squeamish.

I can see why this anime is both revered by those old enough to have seen it and never heard of by casual fans today.

Mad Bull 34 (マッド★ブル34, Maddo Buru Sanjūyon) was based on a Japanese manga series written by Kazuo Koike and illustrated by Noriyoshi Inoue, serialized in Shueisha‘s Young Jump between 1985 and 1991, and collected in 27 tankōbon volumes.

The flashy Future Funk juggernaut is back! Legendary producer Macross 82-99 is marking a grand return with a new installment in the Sailorwave album series. Five years separate Sailorwave III to its predecessor and yet the magic has yet to lose a sparkle from its radiance. The Mexican producer has squeezed together a compact 32-minute set of tracks that will have you sweating yourself fit on the dancefloor. Former fans of arcade rhythm games will be powerless to the urge to shuffle their feet to the breakbeat-paced rhythm. Sailorwave is slicker than ever, and it’s here to make its case as an instant classic in the Future Funk genre.

I expected nothing, and yet I’m still disappointed.

Wait, no – that’s not totally genuine. I expected quite a bit. Cowboy Bebop has long been considered one of the best anime of all time, and many of Netflix’s recent originals have been outstanding. You would think Netflix would know to give a fan-favorite like Cowboy Bebop the absolute white-glove treatment. Get it right.

What I mean to say is that after so many live-action anime atrocities like Ghost in the Shell (I’m not even going to list the others, you know them well if you’re reading this article) – well, I’ve learned not to get my hopes up. For a moment there though I was excited when I heard they brought in Shinichirō Watanabe, the original director of Cowboy Bebop, as a creative consultant.

But after seeing this teaser, my small flickering flame of hope has finally been snuffed.

Cowboy Bebop: The Lost Session Teaser is All Style, No Mood

First, let’s start on a positive note: the camera work was gorgeous, and really nailed the difficult-to-shoot anime style. The personality of the characters was evident – in particular, Mustafa Shakir’s delivery of Jet Black was astounding. The short sequence was also filled with style…

…but wow, was that style tacky. It seems like they were shooting for a Tarantino stylization, but between the paper-thin CG backdrops, cardboard props, recoilless gunfire, and Marvel-style cheeky (read: soulless) one-liners, the teaser falls totally flat. It honestly felt like I was watching a low-budget indie short.

But perhaps most importantly: any semblance of the moody, melancholic, and serious tone of the original series was lost.

To me, the humor in the original Cowboy Bebop was a convenient way to lighten the mood after dealing with heavy subjects like terrorist attacks, drug addiction, and the death of loved ones. It also injected a wonderful personality into the series – but that humor was never the point. At its core, Cowboy Bebop was always a futuristic drama-noir dealing with themes of existential crises, morality, and loneliness – not a comedy-action comic book ripoff.

For example, in the first episode of the original series, we learn after a woman’s pregnant woman’s stomach gets shot that it is actually just a drug mule satchel – and soon after that, she blows her lover’s brains out just before being torn to pieces herself by a hail of low-orbit gunfire.

That poignant scene is a far cry away from the irreverent “Hey nut buckets, there’s no payout if you shoot him in the face!” we hear from Faye towards the end of this teaser.

Now, you might say, “But it’s just a teaser!” – and you’re totally right. Perhaps I’m reading into it too much. There is definitely still a chance this teaser isn’t a great representation of the rest of the series… but that would be surprising. After all, it’s supposed to tease us, no? When musical artists put out singles to build hype for their album, they usually choose one of the best tracks. Similarly, why tease content that’s not in the actual series? It seems clear to me that the creative direction here is very poor – unsurprising considering the live action’s developer, André Nemec, also helped write the heinous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 flop.

Judging from the approving comments I’ve seen in the comments section of the teaser on Youtube – a load of you are going to disagree with me. And let me be the first to say – I hope I’m wrong too. We’ll just have to wait and see – the trailer drops next week and the live-action Cowboy Bebop series is set to debut November 19th on Netflix.

Why Do They Keep Getting Live-Action Anime Reboots Wrong?

I think what we’re dealing with here is the same core reason why so many other anime adaptations failed. The showrunners fundamentally view the source material like they would a western cartoon – a show for kids and teens. They don’t take the source material seriously – or they don’t understand it – and the end result is always the same: a hollow shell lacking all semblance of the very substance that made that anime so beloved to begin with.

Now, not all live-action anime is bad. The Matrix is a fantastic example of how live-action anime can be done right. Shot-for-shot, The Matrix closely parallels Ghost in the Shell – so close in fact rumor has it they asked Mamoru Oshii for permission to make the movie. Of course, the story is different, so it’s not really a remake, but still – it is possible to make a good live-action anime movie.

Created by the Italian comic book creator Hugo Pratt in 1967, Corto Maltese is a half-British / half Andalusian-Romani sea captain living in the early 20th century who routinely goes on adventures and finds himself mixed up in situations set parallel to world events in history. The comics are highly praised as some of the most artistic and literary graphic novels ever written and have been translated into numerous languages and adapted into several animated films.

Here is one such animated film. I’ve chosen this one because, every one shares animation films from Japan mostly but, there’s a lot of people who never guessed that quality films, comic books and graphic novels have come from Europe. For example Metal Hurlant, Black Sad, hell even Mysterious Cities of Gold, The Incal, Metabarons and more.

Directed by Pascal Morelli, Morto Cortese in Siberia is one of the better animated films if not the best of the bunch. With crisp animations and near R-rated action and mature themes, it grips you into it’s intrigue and drama.

With this book Hugo Pratt leaves behind the short story form he’d used for 21 interrelated tales and presents a truly epic graphic novel. In the aftermath of the Russian Revolution and the First World War, Corto Maltese is engaged by the Red Lanterns—a Chinese secret society made up entirely of women—to find an armored train laden with gold that belonged to the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II. They aren’t the only ones lusting after the treasure. The adventure, which shifts from the hidden courts of Venice to the mysterious alleys of Hong Kong, from Shanghai to Manchuria and Mongolia to Siberia, also attracts regular and irregular armies, as well as revolutionaries and counter-revolutionaries.

A running time of 92 minutes is long enough for this energetic and lush adventure. My favorites scene has to be the scene on the ship when Corto and his friend Rasputin (who resembles but has not relation to the actual Rasputin) are confronted by assassins. The story takes you globe trotting as they both trek in search of lost gold and glory. I’m recommending this to any and all fans of the Adventures of TIN TIN.
Below is the full playlist for Corto Maltese in Siberia.

Welcome back, loyal set of eyes. For this third expedition down memory lanes, we are honoured by the presence of our guest Mecha Maiko. known to many as Hayley Stewart, the former voice behind Dead Astronauts. Having just dropped a new music video for ‘Phones’ on our Youtube channel, the Torontonian artist was kind enough to spare some time to talk about musical discovery and some defining moments that led her to the sounds of Synths.

It’s lovely to chat with you again! What’ve you got to share and recommend to your fans and readers?

The first thing that came to mind was an album that introduced me to electronic music when I was a kid. It’s weird how there’s so much to pick from, yet I immediately went to this one album. It’s Utah Saint’s self-titled album, released in 1992. When I was a kid, my dad was basically my major musical influence. My mom was also an influence, but my dad would always make me these mix CDs, and this was the first full album that I really got into. We would listen to this CD in the car whenever we had a really long drive to do.

The album is very techno and ravey, but then there’s also some downtempo songs. They were pioneers in sample-based music. You’ve got some Eurythmics, The Human League and Kate Bush samples in there. They pulled inspiration from well-known songs and turned it into something fresh and layered. They helped pave the way for a lot of music that came afterwards: artists like DJ Shadow or Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk… I’m leaving a lot out by picking this one, but I guess it’s because I’m going back to what I used to consider my guilty pleasures. I should be less guilty about these! [Laughs] I’ve been listening to a lot of early techno and getting back into this album.

So your parents were really into music as well.

Yes, but purely as fans, really. They enjoyed going through records and trying to figure out what I liked and what would stick. When I was growing up, my parents were listening to a lot of Grunge like Smashing Pumpkins and Hole, heavy nineties rock stuff. I thought that the sound of electric guitars and raspy voices were the worst thing in the world, but now I have an appreciation for it. There were artists like The Flower Pot Men and Heaven 17 that made their way onto a few CDs, and the first time I heard one of those Synthesizers, I was like “How is this sound even happening!? What is that??”. Heaven 17 has that nostalgic feel, for me. The Hawaiian Pups as well! There are some things that I grew up with that give me nostalgia, but there are also things that I’ve found along the way.

A heavy component of Retrowave is its tendency to make you feel nostalgia from music made from old-school sounds, after all. Like a number of artists in the scene, I grew up in the nineties, yet the music still hits me in that same way.

You’re totally right with that. I think the artists that got me into Synthwave were probably Com Truise and – even if they are on the fringes of that world – Washed Out and Neon Indian. Once I started to know what to look for and what I was drawn to, it was easier to dive in. I’m in the exact same boat as you: I grew up in the nineties.

Do you remember how you first got exposed to these artists you just mentioned?

That is an excellent question. I think it has a lot to do with music blogs. I can’t remember a lot of them, because a lot of them don’t exist anymore. I know Disco Dust had a lot of stuff, I would follow them religiously. I think I found a few labels that had some really great artists, too. I cast such a wide net when it comes to researching and looking for new music.

Do you remember when that was?

That was probably when I was either finishing high-school or going into my first year of college. That was ten years ago, wow! That’s when I started discovering French touch and all.

It’s funny you mention blogs, because it just comes to show how many shifts there have been in the way people discover and access new music in these last couple of decades. My first exposure to Synthwave was probably through Com Truise, who magically appeared in the ‘related videos’ section of a completely unrelated Youtube video.

The youtube algorithm is scarily good sometimes. Sometimes I’m like “Why would you think I would like this??”, and other times I am very pleasantly surprised. That’s basically what I use now, along with Discogs and Mixcloud. WFMU also has some very good shows. I find a lot of new music through that station. Their DJs are all super good at curating new music.

It’s really crazy to think about how all of the different trends in technology shape the way we consume music. I think the Blogspot era was the best, because you could simply find a blog where you trusted the writer. Once you found someone who had more or less the same taste as you, you were set! The other great way to find new music is if any artists that you follow happen to do a DJ set. Generally, they will be full of gold. Even if you find only one artist that you’re interested in, it can lead you to a lot more discoveries through Discogs and whatnot. I totally agree that moving back towards curation is great. I know that Spotify does those curated playlists, but to be completely honest, I don’t even use Spotify. I only use it to look at my artist dashboard.

So the idea of this column is to dive into what makes each artists’ personal vision and idea of retro pop-culture. Do you have any particular pockets of Eighties and Nineties pop-culture that feel especially personal and nostalgia-heavy? In terms of films, TV shows, cartoons …

Now you’ve got me thinking of The Never Ending Story and Willow! Also, although though I didn’t get to watch Bubblegum Crisis when I was growing up, that show is probably the most Synthwave anime out there. I basically grew up with and worshipped Sailor Moon as a kid, from the age of three onwards. I grew up with that and Studio Ghibli films. My artist name was not necessarily meant to reference a particular anime; I’ve just always had this anime weeaboo fascination with Japan as a kid. Nowadays I understand that there are a lot of stereotypes that can go along with that. What started it for me, though, was the street fashion they had in the nineties. Mecha Maiko is also a throwback to the time when I went to Japan when I was 13 and when we went on these tourist attractions where they dress you up as a Maiko.

Thank you so much for sharing ! Do you have any updates you’d like to share with your fans?

Obviously, with the pandemic, everything is a little bit up in the air right now. Currently I have a string of shows in the US that are currently rescheduled for August. If everything goes well, I should be playing with Betamaxx and Parallels and FM Attack. We’re going to be doing a West-Coast tour, hitting Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Phoenix. That’s the plan. I also have some things scheduled in Chicago and Brooklyn, but I don’t quite know if those ones are still happening. We’re also releasing the music video for ‘Phones’. I think also am making a cameo in a music video for Michael Oakley. I don’t want to give away too much.

It was announced the other week that Taika Waititi’s AKIRA adaptation was halting pre-production in favor of a Marvel MCU Thor sequel. Now some people may be lamenting the news but, I say it is a good thing. After all a Hollywood live action AKIRA film has been in limbo since the 90’s. And every time there’s an update it’s always something wrong. Akira is a big story to tell and should be handled with a great attention to detail and imagination. Something that many executives are incapable of doing.

However, there is a new anime being developed by Sunrise studios that will incorporate the entire run of the AKIRA manga that ran from 1982 up to 1990. “The new AKIRA anime will not be a sequel and more a retelling”, as said by Sunrise. Why is this a big deal? Well because, the anime that was released in 1988 only covered barely the first volume of the series.

The 89′ AKIRA film will be released on 4k soon

If all of that isn’t enough to get you excited Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo is directing an upcoming anime feature titled, ‘Orbital Era’. It’s his third feature film following AKIRA and 2004’s Steamboy.
Here is the teaser trailer

Stay tuned for further updates on all these projects. Here at NEW RETRO WAVE.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve graced the pages of New Retro Wave but, I’m back. I’ve been in the thick war-torn trenches of completing a new album and working a fifty hour work week in the food industry; it’s been hell since my birthday but, I’m back. And here is my review of the new film from James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez based on the Japanese manga and anime of the same name, Battle Angel: Alita.

I am very pleased to see that this film is doing well in theaters and overseas. I remember there not being that much hype for this film when the trailers dropped. In fact, we are still living in the wastelands of Disney superhero films dominating the cinemas, so I wasn’t surprised when I mentioned this film and got the “Oh yeah, that movie”. My coworker even complained about there being no post-credit scene which was followed by my obvious reply of, “What are you a jagoff?”. Laugh a little. It’s a good time.

Post-credit scene or not, this is a fun film. It’s without a doubt a beautiful movie; absolutely worth 3D. James Cameron has finally given us his long in developmental limbo adaptation of ALITA. Thank goodness this film was released now and not back in the 90’s with his first choice for the starring role “Jessica Alba”; the horror.

Now I was initially skeptical about Robert Rodriguez directing; yeah, yeah, I know he directed SIN CITY but, he also directed SharkBoy and the Machete films. However, R.R. is a big nerd and he loves anime as much as he does Frank Milller so, him helming a film around a James Cameron script shouldn’t and isn’t a complete disaster. Everything thing was laid our for him to just get the job done. And in all honesty, James Cameron has made millions from making movies off of other creators properties (whether they know it our not) making James Cameron the king of the adaptation. All dem things stewed deliciously together into a pretty, beautiful and glittery film.

The film if not entertaining is a testament to the skill and talent of WETA Digital as digital effects, motion capture technology and live action acting come together and form the voltron of anime films. If anyone says this film is just James Cameron flexing his film technology muscles at audiences should be smacked with their own copies of AVATAR. Because, Avatar although good looking was a shallow attempt to WOW film goers with digital effects and color slapped on-top of a Dances with Fern Gully remake. Alita is a better film than Avatar.

The casting was very well designed. Rosa Salazar. Rosa Salazar has been on my “I’d fall in love with” list since I saw her in that really terrible CHIPS remake and I was like “Oh My”. She doesn’t change the world but she absolutely gets the job done in her performance here. I’m a fan.

The film speeds through it’s 122 minutes rather fast. There’s a lot of story and relationships to evolve in such a short time and the main relationship is rushed in a way that many have already seen as a bit problematic.

I won’t compare this to the original anime or manga. I’m just calling it as it is. The film is not reinventing the wheel but, it’s very well made and entertaining. I’d recommend taking your daughters to see it. ALITA is probably the first successful live action we’ve had in movie theaters. Definitely more successful than the recent Ghost in the Shell live action film that I actually liked. I liked the Ghost in the Shell film in spite of all you wet tissue weeping numb-nuts that were out bashing that film.

I may not be sure if ALITA: Battle Angel is the dawning of the Great wave of live action anime adaptations but, I do know that this is another cool chapter in a resurgence of cyberpunk. And Cyberpunk is the future-present.

Go see ALITA.
Directed by Robert Rodriguez, written by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. Produced by Cameron and Jon Landau. Rosa Salazar stars as the titular Alita, a cyborg who sets out to learn about her past after she awakens in a new body with no memory of who she is. Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson.

kEEP your CYBERnetics in check and your analog dials on the REWIND button.

The question is “WILL IT BE GOOD”?

Brandon Easton who recently worked on Transformers: Rescue Bots and the 2011 THUNDERCATS reboot has recently come out from behind the curtain and reassured all interested in an American series featuring the iconic anime hero.

Now i’ve never seen nor had interest in anything Transformers related post Beast Wars. However, I am a fan of the 2011 Thundercats reboot that was full throttle anime action thanks to Studio 4C. The problem is this: is it going to be more catered to casual American fans because, as much as people are uptight and panty-pinching about the new Thundercats cartoon on Adult Swim that looks like complete trash, the 2011 reboot received low-ratings and a lot of grumpy grownups complained about it being too serious; yes they did. They act like they didn’t but, anyone who paid attention knows they did.

So will this American Vampire Hunter D series be made for the stoner casual moe-moe’s that watch current Adult Swim or will it be catered for the true anime fan and hardcore D fanbase only to be ignored by audiences for being to up to date? The future only knows.

It’s almost October, and with a second season of the intense Netflix animated series based on the classic video game franchise, we’re taking a look at all of the info confirmed for Castlevania Season 2!

1. When is it coming out?

Castlevania Season 2 will be premiering on Netflix in its entirety on October 26th, 2018. Season 1 dropped July 7, 2017, and while it was an action-packed addition to the summer, the new season coming just in time for Halloween warms our spooky hearts.

2. How long will it be?

Castlevania had a tumultuous journey to be the violent animated action we can stream today. It was originally intended to be a film, and the length of Season 1 reflects that. In fact, that’s a valid criticism of the first season. 4 episodes of 23 minutes each were nice, but it felt like it just didn’t tell enough of a story. The good news is that Castlevania Season 2 is going to be twice as long, with 8 episodes ordered. That’s enough to give it a proper season arc after what felt like a prelude.

3. Who is writing Castlevania Season 2?

As with Season 1, acclaimed comic book writer Warren Ellis will be writing Season 2. While Ellis is undoubtedly more known for his science fiction stories — of which he is likely one of the best living today — Season 1 proves how effectively he could tell a dark fantasy story. He also clearly has a love for the series, and the game this is based on in particular (aside from one character). He has been trying to get a Castlevania adaptation on screens since the mid-2000’s, so you can only imagine the passion he has for his work now.

4. Which video game is it based on?

Just like Season 1, Castlevania Season 2 will focus on the story of the 1989 classic Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. This makes sense from a narrative standpoint as it has three well-defined characters at the center and a great overarching story to tell. You might notice that visually, the Castlevania series doesn’t seem to match the aesthetic of the NES game. That’s because the animated series is stylistically modeled after the PlayStation classic Symphony of the Night, which forever changed the visual language of Castlevania.

That’s not all though. Based on the Season 2 trailer, we think that Curse of Darkness might be making its way into the season. We’ll talk more about that in a little bit.

5. Who are the main characters?

Trevor Belmont was undoubtedly the main character and focus on Season 1. Castlevania Season 2 has been confirmed to focus on the three characters united at the end of Season 1. While we are used to Trevor Belmont, we will get more time with Dracula’s son Adrien Tepes and the mage Sypha Belnades. Adrien Tepes, also called Alucard, is an extremely interesting character from the entire game franchise, so the greater focus on him could be a highlight of the entire season.

6. Who is the cast?

The cast will be the same in Season 2 as in Season 1. The primary voice actors being acclaimed English actor Richard Armitage, James Callis of multiple successful science fiction series, and Scottish actor Graham McTavish.

7. Will this be the final season?

Castlevania Season 2 wasn’t confirmed until Season 1 was released. We already have confirmation that Season 3 has been greenlit. With the team behind the show knowing that they have longer to tell their story, we can’t wait to see how much they are able to set up come October.

8. What about Grant?

Warren Ellis has said that Grant is his least favorite character from Dracula’s Curse, and his absence from Season 1 was noticed. We aren’t the biggest fans of Grant here either, so that was fine by us, but some fans took issue with it. The trailer shows what appears to be Grant attacking Trevor, so we’re left wondering if this will be a throwaway easter egg, or something more.

9. What about the Vampire Killer?

The Vampire Killer is the whip the Belmont family uses to slay Dracula throughout the centuries. In season 1 we saw it as a leather whip in the hands of Trevor Belmont. Warren Ellis proved excellent at showing the video game convention of a party of heroes coming together interpreted for a TV series, and the trailer clearly shoes Trevor with an upgraded, chain whip. It will be interesting to see how Season 2 handles the convention of weapon upgrades.

10. What was that about Curse of Darkness?

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (PS2) is a sequel to Dracula’s Curse, taking place three years later. The main character of the game is Hector, a former ally of Dracula who betrayed his master. Promotional art from those involve confirmed that Hector will be a part of Castlevania Season 2. With Season 3 confirmed, we have to wonder if that is Ellis’ endgame for his show.

Check out the trailer and its synthwave inspired sounds here!

The famous space opera is looking like it’s coming to a cinemaplex near you. Gundam has been a milestone in anime since the 1970’s. The original series was set in a future century where resources and living space had become so few that humanity began to colonize the stars. In time, those colonies sought to seek their own sovereignty from the control from Earth which lead to civil war. A war that is fought with epic space battles and bipedal mechs and most powerful of them all being the Gundams.

The success of the series lead into other series, mangas and OVA’s making the franchise almost an anthology were storylines can exist independent of each other.

Most of us will remember either the 0083 or Gundam Wing series or the millions of detailed and beautiful Gundam figurines that have graced the covers of the major Japanese toy magazines. Younger members of our community will recall the more recent entries under the Gundam banner.

According to Variety Magazine:
The project will be overseen by Cale Boyter on behalf of Legendary with the Sunrise creative team. No actors, writers, or directors are on board yet. Legendary announced on June 28 that it had closed a $1 billion revolving credit facility led by J.P. Morgan.

No other information has been released at the moment. So what would you like to see in a Gundam Live Action film?
